Rosa Parks
Rosa Louise Parks was nationally named “mother of the modern day civil rights movement.” “What made her different from other African Americans?” One may ask. Well the difference was she was fed-up and wanted/needed it to stop. It all started on December 1, 1955, she was on the bus just minding her own business, in her designated seating area. The bus was getting fuller and fuller, she had already been there since around the first stop. Whites were entering the bus left and right. Once all of the white people's designated area was filled up, blacks were asked to move, including Rosa. She wouldn't move and got asked to leave the bus. The bus driver then called the cops and they later arrested Rosa Louise Parks. Rosa was in jail for only one day, when her husband came to bail her out. After that incident other African Americans and sympathizers began to boycott and not ride the city buses, Martin Luther King Jr. led them in a fight for equal and civil rights. The boycott lasted 381 long days with no bus riding for blacks who wanted civil rights.
