Jamestown
Also known as, Jamestown, Virginia. Location: James City County. Jamestown was the first U.S. Colony. (First of thirteen.) Jamestown was established by Virginia Company of London as "James Fort" on May 14th, 1607. It followed many failed attempts.
Jamestown served as a capital of the colony for 83 years.
In 1644, There was a large upscale Indian attack by the Opchanacanough tribe.
Late in 1606, English entrepreneurs set sail from the Virginia Company of London to get land in the New World. The voyage took five months. There were three ships that set sailed too the new land. They made landfall on April 26, 1607 at a place they named Cape Henry.
On May 14, 1607 Captain Edward Maria Wingfield, elected president of the governing council on April 25,
selected a piece of land on a large peninsula, some 40 miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean, as a prime location. The peninsula was surrounded by the York River in the north, the James River in the south and the Chesapeake Bay in the east of the peninsula. The piece of land had deep water. Jamestown had a very intense history. Jamestown is still a city this very day. There are houses you can buy and live in. Hotels you can stay in, little shops you can buy from, everything just like a normal town. People live there and there are schools there.
